Summary of the 2009-2010 activitiesDear members,
At the beginning of a new academic year, the West African Youth Association (AJOA), a summary of the highlights are in the past year, and those in the year ahead.
Fall Film - Evening cinemas from September to November, location: University Center, projection of three (3) films: Behanzin (historical), Bamako (documentary awareness), Kine & Adams (Adventure / fiction).
Roundtable - December 5, 2009 more than eighty people attended the conference Mr. Bony Louis, Ambassador of the Republic of Cote d'Ivoire on the theme: The role of youth and the Diaspora in the integration and development of Africa.
COCAN ANGOLA 2010 - Dissemination of matches in the Africa Cup of Nations on the campus of the University of Ottawa, the opening ceremony and opening match (Angola vs Mali) from 10 January to the final meeting of January 31, 2010. Egypt, champion of the 27th edition COCAN ANGOLA 2010. Average attendance: about 50-70 per game.
Culture Week and International Development - Wednesday, January 17, 2010 colorful activity.Overview of the West African region, tasting of some specialties, music, dance, parade.Enthusiastic audience at the University of Ottawa.
Chat-debate - Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at 19h more than sixty people gathered at the Cultural Centre Jacques Auger-Gatineau. Theme: Understanding the postcolonial struggle of black leaders: Overview of struggles, from slavery to independence.
Conference - "The United States of Africa, Is a Myth or Reality?" presented by The Honorable Dr. Abraham Nkomo, South African High Commissioner to Canada. By West African Youth African in cooperation with Friends of Sudan, uOttawa Chapter.
UOttawa Francophonie Week 2010 - Tuesday, March 18, 2010, 11am to 12.30pm. Questions for a champion-Special Edition uOttawa 2010. Competition in general culture to celebrate diversity on campus speaking at the University of Ottawa.
Evening culinary discovery - Manjaillement, The Sunday, May 2, 2010, celebrating the end of the autumn session, sharing and tasting of African dishes in a casual atmosphere, ambiance, warm, friendly and sympathetic. Music, dancing and networking.
FIFA South Africa 2010 - Events around the World Cup football (soccer). Watching games, prize draws: T-shirts, keychains, pins, footballs, Vuvuzela. In communion and the joy of sharing this moment together.
Future activities in 2010-2010: Lectures, questions for a champion, discovered my kitchen, movie night, newsletter AJOA, International Week, etc.. A new impetus for the consolidation of the WAYAOttawa, August 27, 2010 - On Saturday, August 21, the members of the Association of Young West Africans gathered at the hall of DMS1110 Telfer School of Management, University of Ottawa for the third Annual General Meeting. The main items on the agenda, focused on the activity report and financial statement for 2009-2010, updating the constitution and bylaws and elect a new executive.
I express our gratitude to all those who made the trip, braving the rain and sacrificing their time to our common cause: the WAYA. Following the election, the new executive is as follows: Mr. Agbodjogbé Armel, President; Aissatou Kaba, Vice-President, Nadège Balima, internal affairs secretary, Bruno Baritello, External Affairs Secretary, Francis Gnimagnon: Secretary Finance.
I also thank the members for the confidence and support they have expressed by electing me President of the Association of Young West Africans, for the new academic year.
Our association, the WAYA, is young, dynamic and rich diversity of its members. So during my tenure, I will work with dedication for the consolidation of its support. Furthermore, I will faithfully respect the cardinal values, founding the WAYA: fraternity, solidarity, respect and humility.
As regards the activities and events for this academic year and university, the West African Youth Association provides conferences with eminent economic, political, and intellectual.There will also stimulating games and general culture as (Questions for a champion, budding genius, etc..) Movie nights, educational activities, sports and recreation, culinary workshops and networking.
To build a community united, dynamic and prosperous, the WAYA needs your contribution, commitment and involvement in its work for better integration. Welcome back to all of you.
